How to manage diarrhoea?

Experiencing diarrhoea can be uncomfortable, particularly when starting your medication. It is a recognised side effect for some patients and usually settles as your body adjusts to treatment.

Steps to help manage diarrhoea

  • Stay well hydrated
    • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
    • If you lose significant salts and minerals, consider using an oral rehydration solution
  • Ease back into eating
    • Start with simple, easy-to-digest foods such as dry toast, crackers, white rice, bananas, and potatoes
  • Avoid certain foods
    • To reduce irritation, avoid dairy products (milk, cheese, yoghurt), citrus juices, raw fruits and vegetables, and spicy or highly fibrous foods
