How to manage constipation?

Constipation occurs because the medication slows the emptying of the stomach, which can also affect the bowels.

This side effect is more common early in treatment and often improves over time.

Tips to help relieve constipation

Increase your water intake

  • Aim for 2.5–3 litres of water per day.

Boost your fibre intake

  • Include more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds
  • Limit foods that can worsen constipation, such as dairy products, white rice, bananas, white bread, and highly processed foods

Start the day with a hot beverage

  • Warm water, herbal tea, or coffee in the morning may help stimulate bowel movements.

Listen to your body

  • Respond promptly when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement, as delaying can worsen constipation.

Stay active

  • Incorporate regular physical activity into your daily routine to help maintain healthy digestion.
