GLP-1 medications are not suitable for everyone. You should not take Wegovy or Mounjaro if you have:
Absolute contraindications
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- Previous serious allergic reaction to semaglutide, tirzepatide, or any components of these medications
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active plans to conceive within the next few months
Relative contraindications (Requiring careful assessment)
- History of pancreatitis
- History of diabetic retinopathy (requires close monitoring)
- Severe gastrointestinal disease including gastroparesis
- History of gallbladder disease or gallstones
- Severe kidney disease
- History of suicidal thoughts or behaviours
