Critical information for your safety while on treatment
Thyroid C-Cell tumours
- Do not use if you or a family member has a history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) or medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- Contact your prescriber immediately if you notice a lump in your neck, persistent hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing
Pancreatitis risk
- Stop taking your medication and seek emergency care if you experience severe abdominal pain that may radiate to your back, with or without vomiting
- These may be symptoms of pancreatitis, a rare but serious condition
Hypoglycaemia (Low blood sugar)
- Especially important for patients with diabetes
- Symptoms include dizziness, confusion, sweating, shakiness, irritability, or fast heartbeat
- If you experience these symptoms, consume fast-acting carbohydrates such as glucose tablets or juice
Gallbladder issues
- GLP-1 medications may increase the risk of gallstones
- Seek medical attention for symptoms like intense pain in your upper right abdomen, back pain between your shoulder blades, nausea, or vomiting
Acute kidney injury
- Stay well-hydrated while on treatment
- Contact your prescriber if you experience decreased urination, swelling in your legs/feet, or confusion
Diabetic retinopathy complications
- For patients with diabetes, rapid improvements in blood sugar may temporarily worsen diabetic retinopathy
- Attend all scheduled eye examinations
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Do not use GLP-1 medications if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Stop treatment at least 2 months before planned conception
- Use effective contraception while on treatment
Heart rate increase
- GLP-1 medications may increase heart rate
- Contact your prescriber if you experience palpitations or persistent fast heart rate
