Types of medications we prescribe (Wegovy vs Mounjaro)

At Compound, we offer two highly effective medications for weight management:

Wegovy (semaglutide)

Wegovy contains the active ingredient semaglutide and works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). It was specifically designed and licensed for weight management.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide)

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a newer medication that acts on both GLP-1 and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. This dual-action approach typically offers enhanced weight loss results.

Both medications are administered as once-weekly subcutaneous (under the skin) injections using pre-filled pen devices.

How these medications work for weight management

Both Wegovy and Mounjaro work through several key mechanisms to support weight loss:

  1. Appetite regulation: They reduce hunger signals from your brain and increase feelings of fullness.
  2. Slowed digestion: They delay gastric emptying, helping you feel satisfied for longer after eating.
  3. Blood sugar control: They improve insulin sensitivity and help regulate blood glucose levels.
  4. Food reward system: They may reduce the pleasure response to highly palatable foods, decreasing cravings.

These medications work in conjunction with your body's systems, rather than against them, addressing the biological factors that can make weight loss difficult to achieve and maintain.
